This first post marks the beginning of a very interesting journey. During the Fall of 2008, I was raiding pretty heavily on the Nagafen server in EQ2 and dabbling in World of Warcraft. Although both of those games have their strong points, something was pulling me back to the original Everquest. Living Legacy was out and I rolled up a new cleric on the Luclin server. I convinced a few friends to give it a shot and although they had fun their interest didn’t hold up for long. As they returned to their gaming security blankets, I soldiered on alone in Norrath.
After a few weeks, I gave EQ2 another shot but my guild was raiding 5 nights a week and being a bit older these days with more RL responsibilities that just wasn’t working for me anymore. Lich King was interesting until I got to Dalaran and saw guys sitting around on harley-davidson mounts with “PWN” license plates on them. I also didn’t like how easy the game had become and every Chuck Norris wannabe was already running around in epics within 5 days of release. I knew those things were coming with the expansion and I thought I could handle it. News flash: I couldn’t.
I kept debating what should I play? What would challenge me? What game has the history, lore and content to keep me entertained? I started to take a closer look at Everquest and the mercenary system gave me hope. As I got deeper into the game, I realized in EQ1 things were different. I knew they would be. What I didn’t realize is that I would find that “different” to be very refreshing.
